ANU class

This event followed Slow Food Canberra’s successful partnership with Real Food Canberra at the recent Slow Soup Kitchens when $1,000 was raised to assist with the production of a Youth Sustainability Cook Book. The student group at the Burton and Garran Hall of Residence on campus have now invited us to partner with them to assist new students to learn about using fresh local produce to prepare their own meals. Many of the students will be arriving at the university for second semester and will have no cooking experience so this is a great opportunity to introduce them to the concepts of Good, Clean and Fair Food – for All. The format of the day was a trip to the EPIC farmers market to meet stallholders and to purchase ingredients, followed by cooking sessions in the Burton and Garran kitchens after which a long table lunch was served. Our role was to provide team leaders (along with Real Food Canberra members) to work with the students to assist in preparing the food. Real Food Canberra and Slow Food Canberra also addressed the students at the lunch.

Venue: Burton and Garran Hall of Residence, Australian National University  on Saturday 30 July2011
